He works within the department of Biochemistry at the European Georges Pompidou Hospital Paris, where he is responsible for the Clinical Oncogenetic Unit in the Department of Genetics and he is also Director since 2004 of UMR-S775 INSERM laboratory entitled Molecular Basis of the Response to Xenobiotic at the Paris Decartes University.
Following specialist clinical training in gastroenterology, liver disease and digestive tract cancer, Dr. Laurent-Puig embarked upon doctoral and post-doctoral research work in INSERM Unit 434 under the direction of G. Thomas at the Curie Institute in Paris, where his research activities focused on the characterisation of somatic genetic lesions in cancer. His later works addressed the identification of new diagnostic and prognostic markers, and more recently, markers for resistance to chemotherapy and targeted therapy. Initially, the work focused exclusively on colon cancer and hepatocellular carcinoma but more recently it has been extended to cover malignancies involving the head and neck and lung.
Dr. Laurent-Puig’s has (co)authored 44 educational articles and 140 original scientific publications in international, peer-reviewed journals, including Nature, Nature Genetics, the New England Journal of Medicine, Gastroenterology, the Journal of Clinical Oncology, the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, Cancer Research, Hepatology, Oncogene, Clinical Cancer Research, the International Journal of Cancer and the British Journal of Cancer. The number of citation is 9688 and his h index is 48.
Dr. Laurent-Puig is an active member of several professional organizations, including the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) and the French Society of Hepatogastroenterology. He is also a member of the board of the Fédération Francophones de Cancérologie Digestive (FFCD) and the gastrointestinal translational research group of the European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer (EORTC).
